4th of July

We decided to spend the holiday at home in Redding instead of venturing out after such an exhausting day and evening before. We didn't get home until about 2:00 AM in the morning. Poor Tim; his eyes were SO tired!

In the morning we went to late service at church, then came home for lunch, and hit the road to see the Shasta Caverns. It was a gorgeous drive just about 25 minutes north of Redding. We all bought tickets for a tour that included a ride on a catamaran across the lake, a shuttle ride up a mountain, and guided tour of the Shasta caverns (caves). It was another beautiful day and super fun to be outside enjoying nature.

After our adventure we came home and made an incredibly yummy 4th of July dinner of fajitas. I also made an American flag cake specifically for the non-Americans to have the ultimate 4th of July experience. So then we all sat around and thoroughly enjoyed our tasty dessert with coffee.

When 10:00 PM came around we went outside to see if we could see the city fireworks from our place. We could just see them over the houses on the edge of the valley behind our apartment, but decided we wanted a better view. So we all jumped in the van and drove to Hilltop Road where we joined a parade of parked vehicles, found a spot to jump out and watched the rest of them go off from the top of the hill. Besides the fact that we knew the rest of the boys were watching fireworks on San Francisco Bay, the evening was pretty spectacular. It was really fun to celebrate an American holiday with our international friends.
